Driving Productivity with New Technology

Kent Concrete is the first concrete contractor in Traverse City, Michigan to introduce laser screed technology in Northern Michigan markets. Kent Concrete recently deployed the Somero SRS S6 Laser Screed on a commercial pour for a storage facility. The laser screed streamlines the concrete place and finish process, making it faster, more precise, and incredibly efficient.

“Demand in Northern Michigan is growing. We recognize the desire for quality and speed to market with our local and national customers,” shares Division Manager Jason Harrall. “The laser screed ensures a level of precision and efficiency that traditional methods can't match. This advanced technology means faster project completion, higher quality results, and ultimately, greater value passed along to our customers.”

Here’s how it works: After placing and roughly raking the concrete, the laser screed’s 12-foot wide head levels the surface using laser-guided technology. It plows, augers, and vibrates the concrete to the specified finish. The machine can be operated remotely or from a seat, and its four steerable tires make it maneuverable enough to fit into tight spaces and under mezzanines.

It handles everything from flat slabs to sloped surfaces and multi-grade parking lots. It delivers unmatched quality by achieving superior flat and level finishes and eliminating human error and fatigue. Harrall continued, “We have multiple manufacturer-trained operators in Northern Michigan. With this technology, we’re setting new standards in concrete work, ensuring top-notch safety, productivity, quality, and customer service. Kent Concrete is paving the way for the future of concrete in Traverse City.”
