Making Moves: Mark Chavez, Assistant Project Manager

“I never expected the impact working at Kent Companies would have on me,” shares Assistant Project Manager Mark Chavez. “It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.” Mark is a second-generation Kent professional, and one of the many multigenerational families at Kent. His story is uniquely his own—shaped by quiet confidence, determination, and an insatiable desire to learn.

Mark joined Kent Concrete in Dallas-Fort Worth as a part-time carpenter helper in 2019. He was balancing a college education and on-the-job experience, determined to earn respect and prove himself. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he seized the opportunity to take on travel projects in Louisiana while continuing his college education through remote learning.

Mark’s commitment to growth paid off. Just two years into his career, he was promoted to leadman, a role that marked his first step into leadership. Under the watchful eye of his dad, a Kent Concrete superintendent, and with the mentorship of foremen and crew members, Mark embraced every challenge as a chance to grow. “My people always pushed me to be better,” he says. “And the foremen and crews here—they’ve always wanted what’s best for me. It’s easier to push yourself when you know others are rooting for you.”

By February 2023, Mark had advanced to superintendent, overseeing complex projects and managing teams with the same dedication he brought to the field. Director of Project Management Drew Holloway shares, “Mark’s ability to think ahead, collaborate, and lead has made him a key player on every project he’s touched. He’s developed meaningful relationships with both team members and customers, which is what makes him so special.”

Now, Mark is taking another bold step forward. This month, he’s embracing a new challenge as an assistant project manager. For Mark, this transition isn’t just a personal milestone; it’s part of his family legacy. “My dad and uncles all work here, and they’re so proud to see me in this role,” he shares. “I’m the first one to move into project management, and they’re all cheering me on.”

As for what’s next, Mark is keeping it simple: “I want to learn as much as I can, wherever I am.” For him, it’s about more than his own growth. Mark is driven by the desire to make those around him proud—his family, his mentors, and the coworkers who have believed in him since the beginning.

“Every step forward in my career, I think about how it reflects on the people who’ve supported me,” he shares, “I owe so much to those who came before me and showed me the way.” With his relentless work ethic and a community that believes in him, there’s no doubt that Mark’s story has many more successful chapters ahead.
